NEW Level 3, Forest School Leader Training in Blacknest Woodland – Spring 2018

Blacknest Woodland, Sunninghill (adjacent to Windsor Great Park)  has, if one ignores the devastation of 1987, been an exclusive oasis of calm and a private place of adventure for four generations of my family. However, early in 2016 it occurred to me that the Greenbelt concept of openness should extend accessibility and encourage people to follow the advice of Albert Einstein who said “Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better“.

I started to consider how I might share my woodland with others in ways that delivered positive and lasting benefit especially for the young and decided that I would start a Forest School.

Step One was to achieve Forest Schools Practitioner Accreditation. This was not a “walk in the park” so when we had successfully completed our course I invited colleagues to join me for a celebratory day in my personal woodland. We had a fabulous day practising our new skills with children and grandchildren of friends and over a campfire meal it was agreed that Blacknest Woodland was an ideal site for the training of Forest School Leaders.

In 2017 we ran some leadership events in conjunction with Vicki Stewart of Brightwood Training and in 2018 we will offer a Level 3 and Level 2, Forest School Leader Courses which are accredited by the Qualifications Credit Framework (QCF). The Level 3 course is for anyone  wishing to set up and lead a Forest School, either within an existing setting e.g. a school or operate as a freelance instructor.
