Culture and Spirit of F. S.

Forest School (FS) is an inspirational process that offers children regular opportunities to achieve, and develop confidence through hands-on and supportive learning in a woodland environment.  Forest School has a distinct ethos and philosophy, part of which is that it happens over a long period of time.  The best results are seen in those who come regularly.

Forest School is also a thriving, growing movement worldwide which is getting children of all ages outdoors to learn at their own pace in a completely uncritical environment and to embrace the natural world around them.   Children are encouraged into child-led activities, giving them space and freedom to enjoy nature, be creative and be physically active in the woods.  They get the opportunity to develop their curiosity, confidence, creativity,  communication skills, knowledge of the natural environment,  ability to assess risk and use tools safely.

Woodlands provide children with raw materials for craft-making, ingenious games and creative shelter building while focusing them on caring for eco systems without ever being conscious of being taught.

The effect of a long-term programme of Forest School is growth in confidence, self-esteem, independence and creativity, heightened emotional intelligence and deep enjoyment of nature, woodlands and animal life.  It is a transformative experience.
